Shari Lynn @ Blue Note Hawaii
Shari Lynn is one of Hawaii’s leading champions of the great American Songbook, having made her mark as a singer, actress, writer, producer and educator.
A born entertainer, her unique singing style blends jazz and cabaret standards, making her a mainstay in concert halls, theaters and jazz clubs. Shari has also worked in radio, TV and film.
Lynn is a nine time Po’okela Award winning actress. Each of her recordings, Miss You Mr. Mercer and The Jive Sisters were nominated for Hoku Awards in the jazz category. She received the 1994 People’s Choice Award and was the 2005 Manoa Marquee Award for her outstanding contributions to the Arts and Entertainment in Hawaii. She won the Grand Prize at the Hawaii Music Festival and represented the USA at the Tokyo Music Festival, appearing with The Tokyo Symphony.
She is a Cabaret Fellow of the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center Cabaret Symposium, having been mentored by Margaret Whiting and Julie Wilson.
Early in her career, Shari appeared in 28 states from California to Florida. Later mainland appearances include New York’s Club 88, and Hollywood’s Cinegrill.
In 2011, 2012 and 2014, Shari was presented in special jazz concerts in The Garden of Lo Stechetto – a unique and fantastic restaurant in Tuscany – which drew jazz lovers from Florence to Perugia.
Lynn’s live performances showcase her warmth, spontaneous wit and passionate delivery of standards and jazz classics. Shari has been a special guest performer with George Shearing at the Hong Kong Bar, The Del Courtney Orchestra, and the Honolulu Symphony. She also guest starred in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel’s Monarch Room with the Brothers Cazimero.
She is the creator of Sunset Jazz, a mainstay of yearly jazz concerts and a fund-raiser for the school at which she has been Director of Music for 16 years – La Pietra – Hawaii School For Girls. Jimmy Borges, Gabe Balthazar, Martin Denny are just some of the jazz greats who have taken part in this community event.
As part of her mission to keep the American Songbook alive, Shari writes, performs and produces critically acclaimed tributes to iconic writers such as The Gershwins, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. Her next production will be a Cole Porter tribute November 19 and 20 at Hawaii Public Radio’s Atherton Performance Space.
